PBi Toolkit
What's it all about?
What's this site for?
Power Bi is a great tool for quickly ingesting data, mashing up multiple data sources and building great visualisations, but one downside to that ease and speed is it's easy to
loose track of the contents of your report. PBi&J's automated review tools allow you to quickly, and easily unravel your power bi files.
What is a Power Bi Template file and why use it?
Power Bi Template files have the extension .pbit and differ from .pbix files in that they only contain the structure of the report and not the data.
pbit files are much smaller than pbix files, making the easier and safer to share.
Why can't I just upload a straight pbix file?
Many reasons; it would be excessively large to upload the report and the data, it is a potential security risk sharing data over the internet, it complicates the extraction of the report structure, slows down the site.
How does it work?
This site extracts the structural information from the Power Bi template file and analyses that to make recommendations to improve your report. It only has visibility of the report and datasets held within, it is always possible that there are other related reports published to the Power Bi service.
Why can't you check more things?
This site is in its infancy, we're working on improving it all the tme and frequently add new checks, if you have an idea we'd love to hear it. Any and all suggestions to improve the service are welcomed, please send us a message!
